Sports to Enhance Jamaica’s Tourism

As tourism officials continue to boast their confidence in destination Jamaica, there is also an announcement of the return of a popular golf tournament. With that, officials are hopeful Jamaica will become the next destination for tourists to come and play the sport. Summer 2022 is being hailed as “the best summer in the history of Jamaica’s tourism”.

Speaking at the opening ceremony for the 18th Annual Golf Tournament, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett announced the increase in tourists and the growth this creates for the country’s economy. The Sandals Resort, which is being lauded for its contribution to the sector’s recovery, will be at the helm of several attractions opening, and reopening in the coming year. Among them are the expansion of beaches Negril, the reopening of Sandals Dunn’s River Phase 1, followed by Sandals Royal Dunn’s River Phase 2.

The island will also see the return of the golf tournament, which has brought 155 travel agents to play golf in Jamaica. As the focus remains on expanding the Tourism Sector, Minister Bartlett anticipates the possibility of sports playing a major role in attracting tourists.  Adding that while the cost of the 12-million-dollar sign in Negril has raised concerns, it was an investment for the destination.  More details below:
