In an unexpected turn of events, the St. James community records its first murder of the year in what is considered an unusual location, shedding light on the prevailing crime rate in the region.
On Wednesday, January 3, 2023, at approximately 11:45 am, Mikhail Shaw, also known as Luther, a 40-year-old mechanic from Dundee, Maroon Town, St. James, became the unfortunate victim.
Mr. Shaw was diligently working at his garage along the Dundee main road near Mt. Edmondson Methodist Church, conducting repairs on a white Toyota Noah motor vehicle. Suddenly, a lone assailant, armed with a firearm, approached him and opened fire, hitting Mr. Shaw multiple times in the upper body. The assailant swiftly fled the scene on foot.
Local law enforcement promptly responded to the incident after receiving a distress call. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Shaw lying on his back, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. The police immediately assisted, and Mr. Shaw was rushed to Cornwall Regional Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival. A police investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrator and bring justice to the victim’s family.
