Stakeholders in Ocho Rios, St. Ann are calling for the town’s main drain to be cleaned. Ocho Rios is one of the most popular tourist hubs in Jamaica, but there is a stench coming from the main drain that runs through the town, channeling water to the sea.
The stench from the drain has become for many, revolting and borderline unbearable.
Paul Thomas operates a business nearby, he says the stench emanating from the drain is affecting his operations, noting frequent complaints from his customers.
He says he has brought the matter to the authorities before.
A woman who works in the town says residents also contribute to the state of the main drain over the years.
Additionally, Councilor of Ocho Rios, Michael Belnavis says plans are in place to address the issue in the near future, adding that the drain plays a crucial role in the town’s development.
