The Population and Housing Census 2022 begins September 12 and will run through to December 31. For the first time, the collection of census will be done using tablets. CVM LIVE spoke to the Statistical Institute of Jamaica’s (STATIN) Director General, Carol Coy. Once in every decade, a census is collected. The COVID-19 pandemic might have robbed STATIN’s chance of conducting the census 2021 exercise.
However, STATIN will now be conducting the exercise, with a historical move; the transition from paper questionnaires to tablets for the first time to collect data.
Director General STATIN Carol Coy underscores the value of the national census exercise, in relation to the country’s development. With the surge in crime across communities, STATIN will be monitoring census takers as they traverse different communities. The data collection period will be from September 12-December 31, 2022. Approximately 7000 census takers will be deployed island-wide. This is the country’s 15th population and housing census for Jamaicans and non-Jamaicans whose usual place of residence is in Jamaica.
