Breakthroughs in treatment and awareness for people living with HIV/AIDs has seen more people living with the virus for longer and many without the guilt of transmission to their loved ones.
However, the United Nations is reporting concerning data regarding the number of Jamaicans with the virus accessing treatment and at what stage due to stigma. Even as the data indicates many leaps over the years in how Jamaica’s handling the virus and those living with it, experts warn not to throw caution to the wind
UNAIDS’ Country Director Dr Richard Amenyah stresses the virus no longer needs to be perceived as a death sentence he notes a significant reduction in HIV deaths among women when compared to men.
