Some education experts are welcoming the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXC) decision to push exams that were set to start on May 3 to now May 23. They admit the three-week postponement should be beneficial to students, giving them adequate time to prepare.
Senior Lecturer in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership, Dr. Canute Thompson, says he is trusting the judgment of the Education Ministry that made the request for this time.
Former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Elaine Foster-Allen, though in favor of the extension, says by now teachers should be assessing each student’s position in various subject areas, in readiness for the exam. She insists the three weeks must be used efficiently, as many students have suffered learning losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More details in the report:
