Support For MOE’s Approach Towards Teacher Migration

There is solid support from the Association of Principals and Vice Principals, with its President Jennifer Williams, commending the Minister of Education for actions taken, which she believes, will ultimately, be well received. Williams, who is also principal of the Queen’s School, clarified not all the 964 students graduating will come into the teaching system.

The Principal says though Jamaica’s second place ranking on the brain drain index might be concerning, the necessary mechanisms for mitigation have always been available. She notes that the notion of schools seeing a mass exodus of teachers is inaccurate. With Jamaica, ranked second on the brain drain index, Williams says there is no need for alarm, reiterating the ministry has always had the necessary mechanisms in place. She had a message for persons currently pursuing their studies in education. Watch the report:
