The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has revealed that Susan Bogle, a 44 year-old disabled woman who was shot and killed in May of this year, was accidentally wounded by someone firing a M-16 rifle.
It has not been ascertained if that weapon belongs to any member of the security forces, as ballistic reports show that other people were directly involved in the shooting. However, the ballistic analysis which have been conducted suggests that the injury Bogle sustained was from a high caliber, high velocity weapon.
Meanwhile, INDECOM is reporting that since January to September 2020, a 25 per cent increase in fatal shootings by the security forces have been recorded, this is being compared to the overall figure of 86 fatal shootings in 2019.
There have been 28 instances of security members accidentally discharging their firearms. As a result, six officers have been injured and one civilian.
For the same period, a total of fifteen mentally-ill persons were shot by Police Officers, in which six were killed.
None of the 15 had a gun, but five were reported to have knives, four had machetes and six had other implements, including spoons.
