Once again, a case of agricultural theft, commonly known as praedial larceny, has resulted in a tragic incident of vigilante justice. With the increasing audacity exhibited by these thieves, more communities are taking matters into their own hands, resorting to methods that are not sanctioned by law enforcement.
The latest incident unfolded in a quiet rural district in St James. In which two suspected goat thieves were shot and killed early Thursday morning. Earlier this week suspected cattle thieves were attacked and killed by a mob in a section of St Ann.
Despite the police’s plea for restraint and discouragement of vigilantism, their advice seems to have been disregarded after alleged animal thieves were attacked and killed in Content in St. James. Dead are 40-year-old Dwight Campbell of Rose Heights, St James, and 32-year-old Alex Green from Porto Bello also of the parish. Green was found along the roadway while Campbell was found in a nearby Toyota Noah van – A van residents say had become a harbinger of fear and suspicion. Watch the report:
