“Tablets Exceed Expectations,” GEOTECH Says Following Termination Of E-LJAM Contract

GEOTECH VISION is voicing concerns over E-Learning jamaica’s statement surrounding the termination of contract for the tablets in school programme. According to GEOTECH, some of the information being relayed to the public is not accurate. Since the Opposition Spokesperson on Science, Technology and Information, called on Minister Fayval Williams to give an update on the status of the tablets in school project, concerns have been raised about the programme.

E-Learning Jamaica had sent a release about terminating its contract with the tablet vendor, GEOTECH VISION citing that several of the tablets received did not meet the specifications required for the classroom environment. It also went further to note that despite numerous promises made by GEOTECH VISION, E-Learning Jamaica was been unable to obtain delivery on the order of tablets which meets functional and contractual specifications.

However, GEOTECH Vision is telling a different story. According to them, there were no issues with their tablets.

In a one page press release, it explains that the company was contracted base don the history of their performance and quality of solution. It says while they respect the need for all parties to be comfortable in any business dealing, to try to falsely minimize the quality of GEOTECHVISION’s tablets is inappropriate and undermines the contribution of local business.

On Wednesday, GEOTECH Vision held a press conference to explain the issue further. The Information and Communications Technology project manager, Stephen Wedderburn noted that GEOTECH Vision is concerned with the decisions made by E-Learning Jamaica. He says GEOTECH VISION certifies the quality of the tablets which have passed numerous benchmarks performed by top experts.

E-Learning Jamaica has also stated that GEOTECH has failed to deliver upon requests. However, GEOTECH VISION is downplaying this assertion, stating that after E-Learning Jamaica requested tablets to be delivered in July 2019, questions were asked about the location for delivery. However, no response has been provided to date.
