Take Personal Responsibility in the Fight against COVID-19

MOHW urged Jamaicans to take personal responsibility in the fight against COVID-19 – A day after the vote, the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) announced that the country is now in the community transmission phase of the Coronavirus, COVID-19 greater emphasis is being placed on individuals to contain the spread of the virus.

While there are 2,097 active cases across the fourteen parishes the outbreak is yet to reach its peak. The government is urging Jamaicans to adhere to the safety measures. The quarantine order in Sandy Bay, Clarendon was lifted on September 2 just ahead of the General Election.

Our news team spoke with a few residents in Sandy Bay after a month of being in a community lockdown. Devon says the quarantine played a crucial role in reducing the spread of the virus in his community. He says residents have to now find a balance between staying safe and maintaining their livelihoods.

But for another resident, the month of lockdown has hit her income. From early March, Clarendon has been a hot spot for the Coronavirus.

CVM LIVE  contacted the medical officer in charge of health at the Clarendon Health Department, Dr. Kimberley Scarlett Campbell, she, however, said she was busy and could not facilitate an interview.

At present, despite a surge in daily cases, no community is under quarantine as outbreaks are now happening across the island.

The Health Ministry says places like Kingston and St. Andrew is difficult to place on lockdown. The Ministry is therefore appealing to Jamaicans to comply with the infection control protocols as the virus spreads across the country.
