Taxi fares go up 19% by Sunday, Another 16% by April 2024

Taxi fares go up 19% by Sunday and another 16% by April 2024 – Come Sunday, commuters will pay more for their bus and taxi fares. Transport Minister Daryl Vaz had for some time been hinting at the increase. On Tuesday, he made it official in Parliament with a significant increase.

Bus and taxi operators last got a 15 percent increase in 2021. Since then, they have been clamoring for more. A steering committee comprising the Transport Ministry, the Transport Authority, public passenger vehicles (PPV) operators, and the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) created the formula for the increase.
