Taxi Operator Imposters: A red plate or a marked taxi is sometimes not enough to indicate that a vehicle is after all a legitimate public passenger carrier. Sometimes, criminals pose as drivers in red plates, blurting familiar routes to lure their next prey.
A female who was recently robbed in a marked public passenger vehicle recalls her ordeal. She said she felt more secure because both her and an elderly man entered the vehicle together.
However, she said she felt suspicious the moment she closed the door because she realized there were no handles to exit.
Jamaica Constabulary Force Senior Communications Strategist Dennis Brooks says while it is a reality that criminals pose as taxi drivers, there are also criminals posing as passengers and it ultimately calls for people to put away distractions and pay attention to their surroundings.
