Public transport operators are still unsettled with the implementation of the new Road Traffic Act. On December 12 Cabinet announced the Road Traffic Act would take effect in February 2023. Scores of taxi operators who claim membership of the One Voice Transportation Group visited CVM’s studio Thursday evening alleging the Traffic Court is treating motorists unfairly.
Communications Director of the One Voice Transportation Group Oscar Finniken, says taxi operators are now concerned about paying outstanding tickets at the traffic courts. He says after several motorists made payments their licenses were suspended. It is also alleged that despite the excessive amounts paid for outstanding tickets they are feeling the brute force of the justice system.
However, Opposition Spokesperson on Transport, Housing, and Works, S says if there is any truth to the allegations the government should provide directives to the court about the suspension of licenses. This follows the government’s instructions, given the implementation of the new Road Traffic Act that if motorists pay outstanding tickets by January 31 it will remove demerit points.
