Taxi Operators Trained in First Response

Taxi Operators trained in first response, in order to minimize loss of life from vehicle collisions.  With road fatalities totaling 412 for the year, the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) in association with the British Caribbean Insurance Company Ltd (BCIC) has partnered to train blue ribbon taxi operators in emergency responses.

Our news team was present at the Linstead leg of the training session. With there being hundreds of taxi operators on the roads of Jamaica, the odds are high that they may be on the scene of a motor vehicle accident. For this reason, the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services has been hosting the training of a number of operators across Jamaica in the essentials and importance of first responders.

The training, conducted at the Linstead Training Center is a partnership with BCIC. General secretary for TODDS Dianne Dennis points to the mishandling of crash victims as one of the main reasons that may lead to their death

In the year so far, there have been 412 road fatalities, and, according to the ministry of transport, speeding was the leading cause. Road safety was highlighted in the training session with special consideration for the incoming holiday season

Newman hopes to train three hundred and fifty (350), taxi operators, by January 2022, when the programme ends.
