Technical And Financial Support Crucial For Development

Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr  Nigel Clarke says the region requires technical support and financial assistance to meet its developmental goals. According to him, this support is necessary and will be beneficial in the long run.

The Government’s Vision Statement is for Jamaica to be the place of choice to live, work, raise families, and do business. This means that by 2030, Jamaica must be a country with a vibrant and sustainable economy, society and environment, a high level of human capital development, greater opportunities and access to these opportunities for the population, and a high level of security.

The Minister of Finance and the Public Service believes that support is necessary to meet these goals. He notes that over the years, there has been assistance from external bodies such as the Inter-American Development Bank, which  has also been associated with critical programmes that form the backbone of social support across the island.

“IDB has been associated with many innovations in Jamaica. Some of the foremost public institutions that we have were started with the IDB technical support,” the minister shares.

Adding to this, the IDB country representative, Therese Turner-Jones says there has been remarkable progress in Jamaica over the years.

“Over the last six years there has been a concentrated effort on getting the macro economic situation to be what it is today which allows for the private sector and everybody in Jamaica to benefit,” Turner -Jones adds.
