As the police continue community walks in Burgher Gully, Mountain View, the friendly crowd has begun to thicken in the streets where they also accompany the security force in their enclave.

An intervention was needed in the once volatile community where police say a rift between residents of Top Burgher and Bottom Burgher spurred many reprisals.

The friction also led to the deaths of at least one resident from either section.

However, the rift between both factions has seemingly started to diminish.

Campbell says foot patrols have eased tension within the community. He says they are in the process of launching a Police Youth Club.

The first meeting set for February 1 will seek to expose residents to non-violent ways of settling disputes.

It will also provide residents an opportunity to attend a skills training institute.
