The anticipated increase in commuters during the back-to-school season has caused the state-run bus company, Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) to reconsider the number of buses currently in operation. Meanwhile, commuters are appealing to JUTC to have stricter schedules in light of the new curfew hours.
Corporate Communications Manager at the JUTC, Cecil Thoms, says their fleet is currently just over 200 buses. However, with a shorter time frame to transfer members of the public due to the tightening of the curfew hours changes will be made. Additionally, Thoms says it has been observed that commuters are wearing their masks less despite the third wave of the virus.
A commuter, however, suggests the JUTC create stricter schedules. He says the schedules have become worse since the pandemic causing many to struggle with getting home in time for the curfew. The Jamaica Urban Transit Company says they continue to sanitize their buses in light of the pandemic to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
