Queen Elizabeth II Dead at 96

Queen Elizabeth II is dead at age 96. The Queen whose full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born on April 21, 1926, in London, England. The iconic woman started her reign on February 6, 1952, and in 2015, became the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

She was born into royalty, with her grandfather being King George V, her father, Prince Albert (Duke of York), and her mother Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Elizabeth had no expectations of ascending to the throne because her father was a younger brother but when her uncle abdicated the throne her father became King George VI, making her heir presumptive. In 1947, she married her distant cousin Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten of the Royal Navy. After which the Lieutenant was named Duke of Edinburgh. An event that was listened to by hundreds of thousands across the world. A year later they had their first child Prince Charles, followed by three other children Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.

In the early 1950s, Elizabeth was afforded more responsibilities when her father became ill. She acceded to the throne at the age of 25, on February 6, 1952, following her father’s death. The royal became Queen of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and islands of the Commonwealth.

Queen Elizabeth became the first British monarch to have a Sapphire Jubilee, as the longest-serving British monarch. Ths she celebrated in 2017.

As of 2019, the Queen is the Commander-in-Chief of the British and Canadian Armed Forces. She also serves as the head of state for a number of other countries, namely: Jamaica, Barbados and Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

The Queen leaves behind her four children and eight grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Peter Phillips, Zara Tindall, Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Lady Louise Windsor, James, and Viscount Severn. She also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren Savannah Phillips, Isla Phillips, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Mia Tindall, Lena Tindall, Lucas Tindall, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, and August Brooksbank.

Queen Elizabeth’s life spanned many major events, cultural changes, and political shifts. She received inoculation in January 2021. On February 20, the following year, Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen tested positive for COVID-19.

In September 2022, Buckingham Palace again announced that the Queen was under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health. The 96-year-old Royal spent her final moments with her immediate family at her royal residence in Scotland.

She was 96 years old.
