Following Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett’s announcement of much anticipated cruise ship jobs, thousands of hopefuls showed up at the St. Elizabeth Technical High School, to register for the program. The program is slated to recruit 10 thousand workers. In the heat of the scorching sun, Friday, long lines curved around the St. Elizabeth technical high school building, where thousands of people showed up to apply for the cruise ship program.
Member of Parliament for St. Elizabeth North Eastern Delroy Slowley, estimated a total of ten thousand persons who were scheduled for the program which was announced by Minister Edmund Bartlett. The turnout caused traffic pile ups throughout the town of Santa Cruz.
Slowley says hopefuls arrived as early as 5 AM, to process their application. He says the high turnout, coupled with majority of the applicants showing up at the same time, caused the long lines.
However, applicants say despite the lines, the process for applying was seamless and easy.
