Three Regional Priorities
Latin America and the Caribbean has established regional priorities to guide the work of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) over the next two years. Sustainable agri-food systems, prosperous and inclusive rural societies, and sustainable and resilient agriculture, are the priorities agreed upon during the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, FAO, regional conference.
FAO Regional Representative, Julio Berdegué, notes that the hunger crisis in Latin America and the Caribbean, lac is not due to a lack of food. Rather, he says the approximately 267 million people living with hunger are affected by inequality and poverty. He says in the Caribbean especially, healthy food options were more expensive thereby increasing obesity cases. Agriculture that is resilient and adapted to climate change is the FAO’s third priority.
