Tighter COVID-19 Measures Effective August 27 – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has responded to the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases with tighter COVID-19 measures for the next two weeks- starting Tuesday, July 27 to Tuesday, August 10. 

Positivity rate since the 10th of June has increased. According to the Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, the transmission rate has moved from a medium to very high in a matter of days (3/4 days).

The Prime Minister says Jamaica is now in the early stages of a third wave of COVID-19 infections. During the Office of the Prime Minister’s Press Briefing, he announced tighter COVID-19 measures to the public.

National Curfew Hours

  • Effective, Tuesday, July 27 the newly adjusted curfew hours from Monday to Saturday will start at 8 pm and end at 5 am the following day.
  • On Sundays and public holidays, the curfew hours will start a 3 pm and go on to 5 am the next day.

New restrictions were also announced for beaches and rivers.

  • Beaches, rivers, zoos, water parks, and attractions will be open from 6pm to 4pm on Monday to Saturday and from 6am to 2pm on Sundays given the change in curfew hours. (50% capacity if applicable)

The country of Jamaica is expected to receive some 1.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of September, including single-dose vaccines, like Johnson and Johnson.
