President of Transport Lobby Group TODDS, Egeton Newman believes the messaging to the public regarding COVID-19 vaccination could be more effective.
Vaccine hesitancy is still a factor locally with only thirteen percent of the population being fully vaccinated. Health expert, Professor Winston Davidson is of the view it should be mandatory for all public transport operators to get vaccinated.
President of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services, Egeton Newman has countered saying Jamaica is not ready to pass the vaccine mandate law. Newman noted that most Jamaicans are hesitant because they do not have substantial knowledge of the vaccines, and therefore an increase in public education is needed. He insists Jamaicans are not fully educated about the vaccine.
Meanwhile, despite the number of vaccines being dumped due to expiration Newman says the people are not to be blamed. He however notes that those who are the providers of the vaccines should be held accountable. Hoping to see a brighter future for the country, The TODDS President pleads with the health experts demanding they play a more pivotal role in educating the people about the vaccine in order to sustain lives and well-being.
