President of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS), Egeton Newman says taxi operators are not qualified to access loans from financial institutions to pay off outstanding traffic tickets. This comes after Justice Minister Delroy Chuck recently offered motorists who have excess amounts of traffic tickets a solution to get a loan to pay off their debts.
Newman says the minister fails to understand some taxi operators do not own their vehicles. He further blames the government for the scores of tickets taxi operators accumulate. Taxi operators have mounted protests across the island, calling for a ticket amnesty, which the government has flatly refused.
