A range of issues were brought to the attention of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement branch of the Police, at the first monthly Public Transportation Roundtable Talk.
It is the first of its kind to create a space for open discussion on the state of the public transportation sector and to find strategies to change the face of the present system.
President of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable service says the matter of indiscipline on the nation’s roadways, is one of the organisation’s major concerns. Newman notes that it is time for transport operator associations and the police to work together to eliminate the level of indiscipline of the nation’s roadways.
He, however, notes that action must be taken against law enforcers who operate outside of the required standards.
The Opposition Spokesperson on Development, Senator Andre Haughton who was also present at the meeting, says if these issues aren’t address it will hinder growth in the transport sector.
A representative from the public safety and traffic enforcement branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Senior Superintendent of Police, Everald Linton, adds that transport operators are critical to the nation’s development.
