Tourism Minister Urges Financial Injection for Tourism

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett is encouraging players in the financial sector to explore investment opportunities available in the tourism industry to spur growth in the sector severely impacted by the pandemic. The Minister says Jamaica’s multi-dimensional tourism sector offers countless opportunities for investment, in accommodation, human capital development, attractions, travel technology among other infrastructure.

According to Minister Bartlett, the Jamaican government suffered a total loss of 43.6 billion dollars in revenue within the tourism sector. He notes this was due to the COVID-19 pandemic which plagued the nation in March 2020. The minister was speaking during a meeting with members of the Caribbean alternative investment association.

Minister Bartlett notes though setbacks were caused by the pandemic, the future of tourism is looking positive.
The minister says, by the end of 2021 Jamaica would see a total of 1.7 million visitors and some 2 million us in earnings. He also adds onward Jamaica will be further on the road to full economic recovery.

Bartlett also sought to highlight strategies the tourism ministry will be taking to achieve its goal by 2025, which will generate major profits in the sector and increase visitors to the island.
