They believe heightened police presence in the resort town is part of the solution. Crime and tourism do not mix; that’s according to Richard Wallace, prominent hotelier and president of the Negril Chamber of Commerce. He says crime in the town is at an alarming level, and business operators are hoping it can be significantly reduced or even eliminated. Recently, two men- a caretaker and a businessman -were fatally shot 2 days apart; one in west end and the other in the vicinity of legends beach hotel on the Norman Manley Boulevard. Wallace says the Negril chamber of commerce has taken the initiative to help improve policing. He notes CCTV cameras in the town have aided the police in tackling crime. He is looking forward to an upgrade.
