The Trelawny Police Division recorded its first murder since the start of the year.
The body of an unidentified female, believed to be in her early twenties was found on Saturday, January 25, in an isolated area of Duncan’s Bay, Trelawny.
The body was found near a dirt track with the throat slashed..
Last year, 30 murders were recorded in the parish.
Superintendent of the division Kirk Rickets, told CVM LIVE that they were at least hoping to have a murder free January.
It was disclosed that the body, clad in a peach sweater, white top, pink belt, cream jeans pants, and black leather slippers, is of a dark complexion, slim built and about five feet, four inches tall.
Superintendent Rickets adds that the incident is devastating as since the start of the year violence against women have increased across the country.
Only weeks ago, St. Elizabeth recorded its first murder, a woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her ex-lover.
And before that, was a murder suicide in Portmore, St. Catherine, a Jamaica Defense Force Corporal killed his common law wife before turning the gun on himself.
These events sparked public outcry for more to be done to prevent domestic violence from escalating.
