The island’s bed capacity to treat with COVID-19 patients has been boosted. This is due to the completion of the 36-bed field hospital on the grounds of the Falmouth Public General Hospital in Trelawny.
The health facility comes at a cost of $36-million dollars and admission of patients is expected to begin as soon as Sunday.
Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton and his team toured the facility on Friday, March 5, 2021.
The completion of the health facility comes at a time when hospitals in the western region are at the brink of being overwhelmed.
Dr. Tufton says the process of hiring doctors and nurses to man the facility has already begun.
