Tropical Storm Ida Triggers Flash Flood Warning Locally
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has issued a flash flood warning following the development of Tropical Storm Ida on Thursday, August 26; this means flooding has been reported or likely to occur in low-lying and flood-prone areas in a short period of time.
Head of the Met Service, Evan Thompson, says while the storm is moving away from the island of Jamaica, it is likely to dump heavy rainfall into Friday, August 27. Thompson says though the storm is moving away from the island Jamaicans must remain vigilant as rainfall will be persistent.
Ida began as a Tropical Wave on Wednesday, August 26, and has since morphed into the ninth named Tropical Storm for the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season. It featured thunderstorms, bleak skies in some sections of the island, and persistent rainfall.
After passing much of Jamaica, Ida is not to leave the island without concern as it has developed to the southwest of the island.
Forecasters in the United States are already projecting that the storm will likely morph into a hurricane by the time it approaches the United States of America. More in this CVM Live story from Neika Lewis:
