Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton is encouraging parents to urge their children to drink water. With nearly 90 per cent of Jamaicans of the view that sugary drinks are among the leading factors for childhood obesity and diabetes, calls have long been made for the government to formulate a dietary policy for schools.
Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton during an update on the sugary drink restriction in schools on Wednesday stressed the need for parents to encourage children to drink water. He says sugary drinks are addictive, however, less intake will reduce the likelihood of long-term illnesses.
Minister Tufton reiterates this cycle of addiction must be broken. The Ministry of Health has partnered with the Education Ministry to restrict sugary drink consumption in schools. Watch the full report:
