A running gun battle between gunmen and police in Central Kingston, early on the morning of July 9, on Tower street, Fleet Street and Water Lane, resulted in the fatal shooting of two unidentified men.

The Central Kingston communities have seen a major increase in police presence and are now under a 48-hour curfew. An investigation launched into the attack.

Superintendent of the Central Kingston Division, Maldria Jones Williams says the members involved in the police shootout are fortunately injury-free and police are working overtime to combat the violence within the relatively small space.

Residents of the community say the checkpoints that have been incorporated are making a difference following the deaths on Rum Lane, however, they say they still fear a reprisal may happen when the police turn their backs.
