One trade unionist says the pricing on goods and services is the best solution to ease the pressure on Jamaicans struggling to make ends meet, as the cost of living is on the rise. He notes that unions themselves have a significant role to play in containing further inflation.
Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees’ (UCASE) General Secretary has admitted that there is a seeming disconnect between the economic performance of several Jamaican enterprises and the difficulties being experienced by the average consumer. Though levy did not seek to question statin’s numbers, he believes the reports on inflation presented often bring into question the progress of the economy in real-time.
He points out the fact that specific sectors appear to be excelling amid the economic downturn, he’s calling for more attention to be paid to the outcomes. He adds that the approach of the central bank in seeking to contain inflation, will always have a knock-on effect on consumers.
