The students of the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) are expressing outrage and frustration over a reported 55% increase in tuition for September 2023. They are calling for negotiations and sensitivity on the administrator’s part as they say the increase is unaffordable.
CVM LIVE understands a 23.33 per cent increase will be in effect by September this year, followed by another increase in September next year, amounting to 55 per cent. In addition to the tuition increase, CVM LIVE is in receipt of documents that show there will also be an increase in miscellaneous fees. The students say the rates of increase are unacceptable.
It is reported a meeting was held on Monday between student leaders and members of the school’s administration. However, they say it reaped no positive results. They say UCC runs the risk of losing many students, as they believe the increase is a clear deviation from the university’s mission.
The students are calling for a revision of the increase, as they continue to be affected by the economic hardships.
