It has been weeks since over twenty Jamaicans studying in Ukraine returned home after being stuck in a war zone for days. In an exclusive interview with one student, she tells CVM LIVE her expectations were not met as she barely received any assistance upon her return.
Months after twenty-one-year-old Ukraine student, Shavell Peart returned home from Ukraine, she continues to face emotional distress from her traumatic experiences, which she says make it difficult for her to operate as normal. Peart was among the over twenty students trapped in an underground bunker in Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine in the middle of rapid gunfire and bombing.
She says since arriving home she has faced severe financial and emotional hardships, especially as she worries about her future. More details in this report:
