Construction is slated to begin later this year for the new Fire Station in one Trelawny community. That’s according to Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Desmond McKenzie who says more areas across the island will also receive a fire station.
He was speaking at the ground breaking ceremony yesterday. The ulster spring division in Trelawny is the second place to receive a fire station in the parish. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday which saw members of the Trelawny municipality and local government in attendance.
Minister Desmond McKenzie, says it has been a long time coming noting that it will alleviate some of the burden on the Falmouth fire station. This fire station is the 5th to be constructed since 2016. The Minister adds that there are other locations across the island on the radar to be targeted. With 40 percent of Jamaican citizens occupying the rural areas, Minister McKenzie seeks to ensure that rural development is not neglected
He says construction of the fire station should begin by the end of this year.
