The nation’s unemployment rate continues its downward trajectory, with a notable uptick in youth employment and an increased presence of females joining the workforce. These revelations emerge from the latest findings of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) in April 2023.
Once again, the Labour Force Survey demonstrates a resurgence in vitality, marked by a surge in employment and a further reduction in the country’s unemployment rate. This positive trend is bolstered by the increased participation of females in the workforce. Ms. Coy elaborates that the most significant employment growth has been witnessed in the real estate and other business sectors, encompassing business process outsourcing. Additionally, there’s been a universal upswing in employment across all age groups. However, the much-touted agriculture sector has experienced a contraction in employment.
