There are mixed responses from unions regarding the announcement to restructure the public sector compensation to include the introduction of paternity leave. While unions welcome the move, they have taken issue with the announcement amid continued dialogue with the government.
President of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions Helene Davis Whyte says the unions are content with the government’s decision to accede to their requests in respect of the increase in maternity leave.
For the President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association (JSCA), the announcement of the introduction of paternity leave, in particular, is surprising but no doubt welcomed.
