More Jamaicans are set to benefit from the government’s broadband initiative come March this year with the addition of 7 more public Wi-Fi sites. Science, Energy and Technology Minister Daryl Vaz yesterday gave an update on the national broadband initiative that aims to have every household and community in Jamaica connected to the internet.
Minister vaz says the initiative will be bolstered by support from the Jamaica Public Service, JPS offering utility poles for the running of aerial cables. Speaking at the quarterly press briefing on Wednesday Technology Minister Vaz says Jamaica will have a total of 20 public Wi-Fi sites by March 31 increasing the current tally of thirteen.
He notes this will be crucial in online learning while turning attention to the own your own device initiative. The minister explains a recent partnership between the JPS and Telecoms providers is expected to fast track the national broadband initiative.
He says this initiative will be critical to digital inclusion in several municipalities.
