It has been more than six months since the World Health Organization (W.H.O) declared the Coronavirus a global pandemic. Now, the W.H.O is reporting a daily record in COVID-19 cases.
W.H.O says more than 307,000 cases was confirmed on Sunday. As well as, 5,536 new deaths.
Globally there has been the highest jump in COVID–19 infections since the virus outbreak in late 2019. The World Health Organization says lives and livelihoods are being impacted and it wants governments to come together to build more resilient health care systems.
The United States, Brazil and India recorded the most new cases on Sunday.
According to Director of the World Health Organization, Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, this is an indicator that the virus remains very active across the world.
Dr. Tedros continues to encourage countries to invest in robust health care systems for future pandemics.
He says the next pandemic or global health emergency must see the world much more prepared to mitigate the impact.
Here in Jamaica, the Health Ministry reported 162 news cases and two deaths in the last 24 hours.
Bringing the overall total to 3,771 cases of the virus.
Globally, cases are fast approaching 30 million, with deaths just below one million.
