Some St. Catherine communities have been without water for several days due to the contamination of the Rio Cobre. According to the National Water Commission (NWC), residents can expect to get water supply soon.
Corporate Public Relations Manager at NWC, Andrew Canon, says there is a gradual improvement in the quality of inflows to the Spanish Town Treatment Plant.
Residents of Spanish Town, Westmore, Hampton Green, Milton Avenue, Hartlands, Brunswick Avenue and Job’s Lane, and surrounding the areas will see a restoration in supply. However, Cannon explains that the water pressure might not be high, he notes that over the next few days, residents can also expect to see an increase in the water pressure.
The National Irrigation Commissioner says it too has resumed at their Rio Cobre canal system.
Meanwhile, the South East Regional Health Authority, the St. Catherine Health Department cautions that persons must take the necessary steps to ensure that the fish they are purchasing in the area is safe for consumption.
