Waterford And Whitfield Town Residents Respond To Curfew

Residents of Waterford, Portmore, St. Catherine  and Whitfield Town in St. Andrew are welcoming the extended curfew following worrying COVID-19 cases recently. CVM LIVE visited the areas earlier today and noticed disparity in the enforcement measures within the two communities that have more than 20 active COVID-19 cases and for one community five deaths.

It was unusually quiet in the entertainment mecca of Waterford, Portmore when our cameras visited the community on Wednesday.

The community has been flagged by the Ministry of Health as having an alarming increase in COVID-19 cases and was placed under an extended curfew which came into effect at 6pm on Tuesday. Waterford has 24 active COVID-19 cases and recorded 5 deaths.

The curfew, which will run from 6pm to 5am daily ends on October 20. Only essential workers are allowed to leave the  space and social gatherings should not pass six people. Some residents are welcoming the measures but complained that they are facing some inconvenience.

Member of Parliament for the area, Robert Miller is urging the residents to comply with the measures.

But when CVM LIVE visited the community there were no checkpoints and no military or police presence.

Meanwhile, over in Whitfield Town St Andrew, barricades were erected and representatives from the Ministry of Health were checking temperatures and sensitizing residents. Whitfield Town has 21 active COVID-19 cases.
