“We are now in the danger zone,” that’s according to Prime Minister Andrew Holness. His pronouncement came after the island recorded high triple-digit positive cases over the past week. Speaking at a media briefing on Monday Prime Minister Holness hinted at a possible lockdown if the surge in positive cases continues.
The country yesterday received its first shipment of the AstraZeneca vaccine from India, fifty thousand (50,000) doses. The vaccination of the first group of vulnerable Jamaicans is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 10, at the Good Samaritan Inn in Kingston, exactly one year later after Jamaica recorded its first case of the virus.
The present state of hospitalization continues to be alarming, with thirteen (13) of the twenty-two (22) hospitals across the island at or over 85 percent capacity. Meanwhile, the government is considering providing financial grants for gravediggers and persons constructing vaults.
With ‘Danger Zone’ in mind, the ban on burials took effect Monday, March 8 and will last for the next two weeks.
