Weather Protect Insurance Policy for Farmers and Fisherfolk

The Weather Protect insurance policy is now available for farmers and fisherfolk to guarantee financial coverage in the event of extreme weather conditions.

The crop insurance policy was developed and implemented by the Agricultural Ministry and Grace Kennedy Insurance (GKI).

Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Floyd Green says in the event of adverse weather conditions such as; prolonged rain, heavy wind, or drought, which cause extensive devastation to crop, farmers can now determine their next move with the financial coverage.

Minister Green says natural disasters have left the sector with billions in losses for decades. Which has forced many farmers to start from scratch.

However, Green says the Weather Protect insurance policy is flexible and accessible, with coverage as low as $5700.

He says it is part of the Ministry’s effort to build resilience throughout the agriculture sector.
