Twelve-year-old fire victim Adriana Laing has successfully completed three surgeries since being airlifted to a hospital in North America. That is according to the Director of the San Merna Foundation, Robert White. Adriana Laing is the sole survivor of a house fire that claimed the lives of her three siblings in Westmoreland recently.
Third-degree burns, the fate of 12-year-old student, Adriana Laing after her three younger brothers perished in the same fire. Her story compelled Jamaicans and foreigners alike to show a level of compassion some felt had been lost amid the country’s bloodletting.
Such was the support that resulted in the near 40 thousand us dollars needed to airlift her to a burn centre in Atlanta, Georgia. Since then, …White says Laing’s father remains in Jamaica where he’s now making final arrangements to lay his three sons to rest. White however maintains once Mr Laing is able to, the foundation will provide financial assistance to help secure his travel documents to visit his daughter abroad. For now, he maintains that things do appear hopeful for the young burn victim.
The San Merna Foundation has played a critical role in securing treatment for victims of fire and other ill-fate abroad. They were also among the first to extend a helping hand to the Laing family following their misfortune.
