Crime continues to plague the society.
Recently, there have been a number of crimes committed against children. However, according to the Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson; several serious crimes are being committed by children themselves.
Major General Anderson says twenty-six children have been charged in Westmoreland for serious crimes. Speaking at a meeting of the Kiwanis Club in St. Andrew, Anderson says six were charged with murder, five with shooting with intent, four with illegal possession of firearms, and the remainder for armed robberies and other crimes.
He says these children are between the ages of fourteen and seventeen. He says much needs to be done to prevent crime among children, rather than merely punishing them when it happens.
The commissioner says the conversation surrounding crime must be shifted to handling violence, even before it becomes crime.
Major General Anderson also addressed violence against children.
