The Americas has now taken the lead accounting for the region with the highest number of Monkeypox cases and a vaccine company has stepped in to supply Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). These were among the highlights of the latest world health organization briefing.
Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Tedros Gebreyesus told the media this week that the Americas has overtaken Europe accounting for the largest number of Monkeypox cases. However, he admits all is not lost as the WHO also inked a deal with a vaccine producer to supply the commodity.
Meanwhile, Dr Tedros is encouraging nations to continue their COVID-19 vaccination drives, especially among the vulnerable. He reminds that despite other viruses such as monkeypox, COVID-19 remains a concern. More details in the report:
