The lingering effects of teacher migration are evident in Jamaica’s education system. Education Minister Fayval Williams, says the government has outlined several steps to ensure the nation’s children continue receiving quality education come September.
During CVM LIVE’s Panel Discussion yesterday the minister assured thousands of new teachers have already been procured. To tackle the perennial issue of teacher migration in Jamaica, over 2000 new teachers are set to be integrated into the education system come September. The Education Minister says this cohort was provided in partnership with the Mico University College and the Jamaica Teaching Council. She says the government has also sought to reintegrate retired teachers and those on leave, paying them simultaneously their benefits and their teaching salary.
The minister, who was speaking on CVM LIVE’s Panel Tuesday, adds, the government is also implementing a centralized platform that will allow unemployed teachers to upload their credentials for school administrators to review. Watch the report:
