Buried wage negotiations and no insurance for workers are some of the reasons cited by protesting WINDALCO workers.
The workers led a two-day strike, which began Monday in Ewarton St. Catherine at the entrance of the bauxite company, demanding answers and better treatment.
Believing disturbance to work systems, mounting roadblocks and staging protests is the way forward in 2023 to get the attention of authorities, workers at the West Indies Alumina Company, Windalco, did just that. Chief Union delegate Garth Cheese explains that wage negotiations have not been fruitful, stating it makes no sense to even report matters of this magnitude to the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT), as they told them they cannot make any decision based on their contractual agreement.
