A Portland woman is hoping to inspire success and change among many Jamaicans who have lost loved ones to crime and violence. Her story is one of overcoming grief and trauma after the brutal slaying of her mother for more than a year now. Her indomitable spirit reminds us of the resilience of our people.

A crime stole her mother, Cynthia Lorraine Hines, from her in July 2021. The death of her mother rocked her emotionally and otherwise but at her graduation from the wright’s academy recently in Portland, Ann Marie Bunting Bryan shone brightly.

This soon-to-be allied health patient care provider recounts her struggles since losing her mom. And despite listing several groups and individuals who have been her rock, she is still moved by the absence of her mother as she counts another victory.
